An unexpected side-effect

Well, it’s been two weeks of using the e-cigarette now, and I can report an unexpected bonus! Those who know me will be aware that I am a serious caffeine fiend. I could easily finish off a couple of plungers of high-strength coffee before lunchtime. Just to give you a quick insight - between two of us, we consume on average 5kg of coffee per 6-7 weeks.

I have noticed that the last week has seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of coffee I’m drinking. I can’t say for sure that this is somehow related to the e-cigarette, but I am very suspicious. My pick (not scientific, by any means) is that an ingredient in normal cigarettes somehow contributes to caffeine craving.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

As a side-bonus, the taste of real cigarettes is starting to become less appealing by the day!

  2. Hi Rosie,

Sorry to see you haven’t had a reply as yet :-/ , will rectify that now, but not sure how helpful I can be.

I can understand your confusion as there is so much out there, but I guess it’s very much a personal experience and you can only go by what experiences others have had until you try yourself. That’s how I chose my first E-cigarette (Sedansa) as well, by reading about other people’s experiences on various forums.

Have you checked out the forum on this site yet ? And others on the Net ?

If you are in New Zealand and wish to purchase locally then your choices are still fairly limited (leave a question on the forum, I’m sure Mark could help you out with this). If you don’t mind ordering from overseas, there’s plenty to choose from !

Good luck and do let us know how you get on ?

    Cheers, Silver

  3. Hi Mark,

Can’t comment on the coffe as I don’t drink the stuff myself ;-) , but would definitely agree that the taste of regular (or ‘analogue’ as they’re now called) cigarettes is definitely less appealing after becoming used to the Electronic cigarette and IMO that’s a HUGE bonus ! (Instead of craving analogues, I now crave the Electronic ;-) !)

    Cheers,
    Silver

  4. Sorry, I already replied to Rosie directly via email (rather than publishing supplier details here).

With regard to the taste of analogue ciggies, you should try some of the other cartridge or e-liquid flavours! I’m experimenting quite a bit with different strengths and flavours. Currently, my favourites are:

    1. Mixture of Flue-cured tobacco and coffee flavour. Good for evenings!
    2. Mixture of Apple and a little bit of menthol (this tastes nice and fresh!). A good wake-up call for the morning!

I know it seems weird to “smoke” fruit, but it is actually surprisingly nice :)

I only use this liquid in my e-pipe though, as I have heard it can play havoc if you’re dripping it directly onto the “multi-brand” mini e-cigarette. I’m also using lower strength or 0% in some cases, because the pipe puts out a huge amount of vapour . . . excellent!! :)

  5. Hm, I actually was quite a caffiene addict myself until I started smoking… I found that smoking cigarettes itself reduced my caffiene addiction to the point that one or two drinks a week will cut it, rather than worsening it… I’ve yet to get an E-Cig (no local or international-with-reasonable-shipping-times supplier I can find) but I’m looking into it.

  6. Although that could be to do with the method of consuming caffiene.. you’ve said you’re a coffee drinker, whereas I can’t stand coffee and have always gotten my caffiene from energy drinks (in the past, always V, but recently I have all sorts of drinks).
